DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for verifying the genuineness of an email message by using an e-signature. When DomainKeys Identified Mail is activated for a given domain, a public cryptographic key is published to the global DNS database and a private one is stored on the email server. When a new email is sent, a signature is issued using the private key and when the email is delivered, the signature is ‘scanned’ by the incoming POP3/IMAP server using the public key. Thus, the receiver can easily know if the email is genuine or if the sender’s address has been forged. A mismatch will appear if the content of the email has been modified in the meantime as well, so DKIM can also be used to make sure that the sent and the received messages are identical and that nothing has been attached or deleted. This validation system will strengthen your email safety, since you can validate the authenticity of the important email messages that you receive and your colleagues can do the same with the emails that you send them. Depending on the particular email provider’s policies, an email that fails the examination may be deleted or may enter the recipient’s inbox with a warning notification.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Website Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is pre-enabled for all domain names that are hosted in a website hosting account on our cloud platform, so you will not have to do anything on your end to activate it. The only condition is that the given domain name should be hosted in a hosting account on our platform using our MX and NS records, so that the e-mails will go through our mail servers. The private key will be generated on the server and the TXT record, which includes the public key, will be published to the DNS database automatically, so you won’t have to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this option. The DomainKeys Identified Mail email authentication system will enable you to send trustworthy email messages, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for instance, your emails will always reach their target destination, while unauthorized 3rd parties will not be able to spoof your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

All required DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain name as hosted in your semi-dedicated server account, so if you decide to order a semi-dedicated package, you will not have to set up anything to be able to take advantage of the email validation system. The domain name should use our name servers so that its DNS records can be managed by us and if this precondition is answered, a private cryptographic key will be created on our email servers and a public key will be published to the Domain Name System by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you set up with the domain name will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, which will make it impossible for third parties to spoof any address. Both you and your associates or clients can benefit from this functionality, since it will guarantee a much higher security level for your online communication.
