Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Due to the fact that the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a website hosting account. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the options are limited since you will not have root access to the hosting server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They're all actions which are carried out within the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of applications for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

SSH access is offered with all website hosting we provide. With some of them, it's provided by default, while with others it is an additional upgrade which you can include with a few mouse clicks in your web hosting Control Panel. You may get SSH access through the section dedicated to it in which you will also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password that you'll use and, if needed, you will be able to change it with several mouse clicks from the same place. All commands that may be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article alongside relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account through SSH no matter which package you select when you sign up. With some packages, the feature is provided by default, and with others, it could be included as and additional upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll find the required login info in the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You could choose the password that you'll use and if you want, you could change it constantly with a couple of clicks for even higher security. You'll be able to see all the commands that you may use upfront, because we have listed them alongside examples of how they are used so as to execute a particular task. As soon as SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you shall be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
